Something that has no price has no value

A saying taught to me by Andrew Wade over 25 years ago. It has stuck with me my whole career, as so many times people I have worked with have given away time for free, in return for what?

When at Salesforce we had a large corporate that paid for 9-5 cover 5 days a week, my team worked 24 by 7 and all they got was abuse from the customer. I asked them to pay for out of hours support. They did Pay and the respect was restored between the teams.

When you give away free product or service, you are saying something about your product or service, so be wary. It is also demoralising for your team. My team were over the moon with the outcome.
